Both Lautner Docs to Screen in Netherlands

Both The Spirit in Architecture: John Lautner and Infinite Space , documentaries on John Lautner’s work, will screen at a theater in Enschede, The Netherlands, on November 27, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. The films will be introduced  and discussed by Bette Cohen, director and producer of The Spirit in Architecture, and Jan-Richard Kikkert, Dutch architect who has visited and recorded information on almost every Lautner building in existence, who recently traveled to Marquette, Michigan, to lecture on Lautner.

Marquette Exhibit Ends Soon; wins “Most Awesome” Award

The exhibit on John Lautner at the DeVos Museum of Art in Marquette, Michigan, will close November 13. The exhibit will be open late Saturday, and will offer a closing celebration including a concert by the Terminal Orchestra.

The Michigan Museums Association has awarded the exhibit at the DeVos as well as its sister exhibit at the Marquette Regional History Center its “Most Awesome Experience” award! If you have a chance to see the two museum exhibits, one which features the work of John Lautner and the other of which delves into his family background and life in the Upper Peninsula, do it now! The history exhibit will extend into January of next year, so there is more time for that one.

Exhibits’ Official Openings Friday

Both new exhibits on John Lautner, already open in Marquette, Michigan, will host a formal opening reception Friday, September 2, 2011.  Frank Escher, editor of the monograph John Lautner, Architect, will speak on Lautner at 5:00 p.m., and the DeVos art museum’s reception will follow at 6:00 p.m. The reception at the Marquette Regional History Center begins at 7:00 p.m. (so you can go to everything if you want!).

See this article on the exhibits for more information on the opening reception and all related events.

Lautner House Tour Date Changed Because of 405 Closure

The date for the tour of Lautner homes, originally scheduled for July 17, has been changed to Saturday, July 23, to avoid traffic difficulties expected to arise from Cal Trans’ temporary closure of the 405 freeway in the L.A. area. The Foundation Board of Directors and the MAK Center decided there was too much risk associated with the closure to assure a smoothly-operating tour.

Tickets are available at the MAK center: http://makcenter.org/MAK_Exhibitions_Current.php#
JLF members get $10 discount.

The Calendar of Events is kept up to date as quickly as new information comes in. Be sure to check it at http://www.johnlautner.org/wp/?page_id=663 for the latest information and ticket information.
